Famine Caused by the Hands of Stalin Himself
Read the article bellow and answer the following questions...
1. How was Stalin's regime a direct cause for the famine starting during early Soviet rule?
2. How did the effects of the famine continue to make it worse? Describe this seemingly never-ending cycle.
3. Lastly, do you believe it is right to call this famine a genocide? Please explain your thinking.

1. Stalin's regime was a direct cause for the Ukrainian Famine because he enforced that small farms be taken over and turned into state-run collectives. When the food harvested was lower than the amount expected, it was confiscated. This left a small amount of food for the Ukrainian people.
ReplyDelete2. One of the effects of the famine was migration. The famine caused many to try and relocate to find food elsewhere. Because so many had migrated, there were not many people left to raise the crops and make food. This led to an even greater food shortage.
3. I personally believe it is right to call this famine a genocide. It was caused by Stalin's regime and did not have good intentions. Millions of deaths resulted from the famine that was caused by these actions. I believe this Ukrainian famine meets the requirements, by definition, to be considered a genocide.
